Smokin Aces - 2009 Battle of the Bands Winners!

September 1, 2009

Over 80 young people plus invited guests helped young musicians to officially launch the Alpine Shire Music Factory Program at Myrtleford's Soldiers Memorial on Friday night.

The Music Factory was established to give young musicians access to music equipment and the opportunity to develop and practice their skills with assistance from professional tutors. Music equipment was purchased through funding from the Victoria Rocks initiative and the support of the Alpine Shire Council, Alpine Health, FRRR, Myrtleford Lions Club, NEVACC, Central Hume Primary Care Partnership, Bright Lions Club and Alpine Blue Light. This equipment was put to good use after the official launch when local musicians competed in the Alpine Heat of the FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands competition.

The heat kicked off with a performance by 2008 winner, Shadow Cirkus, before 4 local bands showcased their talents. Myrtleford band, "Smokin Aces" won the heat and will represent the Alpine Shire in the regional final in Alexandra on 21 November.

The Youth Council will donate all money raised by the event to the Music Factory Committee.
